EMPTY MILES

The film follows Riku Matsumoto during his time working as a surf guide at Alaia Mentawai throughout the season. The footage comes from daily sessions across the islands — quiet lineups, clean waves, and the steady rhythm of the swell.

Filming was done by Dave, together with our guest and friend Kainoa. Nat shaped the footage after the season into a simple, unhurried look at surf days here.

There is no storyline or narration. Just the way it feels to be out there. The film also shows how we score waves while staying at Alaia — waking early, watching the swell, choosing the spot, and letting the day unfold.
