FIRST FILM WATER SHOTS — NIKONOS V
Dave took the Nikonos V — the legendary underwater film camera — into the Mentawai surf for the first time. With only one roll of film and a few working shots before the shutter failed, the results captured the pure essence of water photography: instinct, timing, and nostalgic grain.

The film follows Riku Matsumoto during his time working as a surf guide at Alaia Mentawai throughout the season. The footage comes from daily sessions across the islands — quiet lineups, clean waves, and the steady rhythm of the swell. Filming was done by Dave, together with our guest and friend Kainoa.
